The partnership reflects MCU Foundation's long-standing commitment to serving and strengthening New York communities.
NEW YORK, May 19, 2025 -- The MCU Foundation, the charitable arm of Municipal Credit Union (MCU), today announced a donation of $100,000 to support The Bowery Mission's ongoing efforts to provide essential resources such as meals, clothes, housing, career opportunities and more to New Yorkers in need.
Rooted in the city it serves, the contribution underscores MCU's commitment to reinvest in the well-being of New Yorkers by extending vital support to individuals and families under financial strain.
"With many of our members and employees living and working across all five boroughs of the city, we're proud to continue strengthening local partnerships that allow us to give back to the community we serve," said George Chacon, President of the MCU Foundation. "We're committed to empowering all our neighbors to thrive, and this donation will play a critical role in helping New Yorkers to break the cycle of poverty and build lasting financial stability."
"The Bowery Mission has been a beacon of hope for countless New Yorkers facing challenging circumstances, and we are proud to be a partner to their great work," said Kyle Markland, Chief Executive Officer, Municipal Credit Union. "This partnership aligns perfectly with MCU's core mission to support New Yorkers by addressing fundamental needs first. As a credit union with deep roots in this city, we're committed to being more than just a financial institution — we're a neighbor and partner in building stronger communities across all five boroughs."
Alongside the donation, the MCU Foundation has also offered MCU employees a range of volunteer opportunities with The Bowery Mission focused on community service and engagement. With 15 Municipal Credit Union branches in the New York City area and The Bowery Mission's presence across all the city, this partnership enables MCU employees to directly assist New Yorkers in need through hands-on service.
"We appreciate the helping hand extended from our neighbors and partners at the MCU Foundation," said James Winans, President and CEO of The Bowery Mission. "This donation and commitment to community service will help The Bowery Mission as it meets essential needs and creates a transformative community with men, women, children and families in New York."
The Bowery Mission helps New Yorkers get back on their feet, one day at a time. Each meal and act of service is an opportunity to instill hope for a better future – to one day rejoin the workforce and find a home. Partnerships and donations, like those from the MCU Foundation, play a key role in helping the organization continue its mission to equip New Yorkers for a better life.
