SAPPHIRE DOMES PROTECT GUIDANCE SYSTEMS

PROVIDENCE, R.I., Sept. 9, 2025 -- Meller Optics, Inc. has introduced custom fabricated sapphire domes that can incorporate various radii for missiles systems and nearly flat configurations for use in gimbals and hypersonics.

Meller Sapphire Domes feature a 160 degree maximum viewing angle and resist fast moving dirt, sand, and saltwater to protect all types of guidance systems from the elements. Providing up to 85% transmission uncoated from the UV to IR and 99% transmission when A/R coated on both sides, they can be made with long radii to nearly flat for use in hypersonic weapons.

Available in sizes from 1" to 6" O.D., Meller Sapphire Domes exhibit Mohs 9 hardness which is second only to diamond and can withstand 1,000oC and pressure to 10,000 psi. Surface accuracy is to < 1 fringe @ 633nm and finishes to 20-10 scratch-dig can be achieved per MIL-PRF-13830, and mounting options can include precise edge steps and profiles.
