Really Great Reading Earns Approval as High Quality K-12 Literacy Partner from Alaska Department of Education

WASHINGTON, July 1, 2025 -- Really Great Reading (RGR) is honored to be recognized in the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development's Vendor Guide (June 2025), officially certified to deliver high-quality, curriculum-based professional learning rooted in the Science of Reading, Alaska's Comprehensive Literacy State Development (CLSD) and Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) priorities.

The need for strong, evidence-based literacy solutions in Alaska is clear. Reading by the end of third grade is a critical benchmark for long-term academic success, which is why Alaska has made early literacy a cornerstone of Alaska's Education Challenge and enacted the Alaska Reads Act. Backed by $50 million in CLSD funding over five years, the state is investing in high-quality, evidence-based instruction for PK–3 educators and beyond, especially for students facing the greatest barriers to success, including children living in poverty, English learners and students with disabilities.

"We're pleased to partner with another state on the shared mission of improving reading proficiency among young learners," said Amy Vanden Boogart, Vice President of Curriculum Products and Services at RGR. "Alaska education officials recognize the importance of the science of reading and have undertaken efforts to support and train teachers and other educators with evidence-based strategies. That's where we come in."

This approval allows districts statewide to access RGR's comprehensive K–12 solution set, including:

  • High-dosage tutoring (grades K–12) — designed to provide intensive, targeted one-on-one or small group instruction to help accelerate reading growth for students who need it most.
  • Foundational literacy tools for PK–5 — (Launchpad, Countdown, Blast, HD Word) built on explicit, systematic instruction that supports reading development at the earliest stages.
  • Previously approved diagnostic decoding assessments — already in use across Alaska, with expanding adoption to support early identification and ongoing progress monitoring.
  • Strong, research-based professional development and coaching — designed to build internal capacity and ensure effective, sustainable implementation of evidence-based literacy practices.

Aligned with Alaska's MTSS, RGR's offerings provide districts with the tools needed for Tier 1 core instruction, Tier 2 targeted support and Tier 3 intensive intervention. With built-in diagnostics, flexible instructional design and robust progress monitoring, RGR enables educators to help make data-informed decisions and deliver the right support to every student.

CLSD funding emphasizes three pillars — leadership capacity, foundational skills and family and community engagement — all of which are addressed through RGR's comprehensive services and supports.

RGR is proud to partner with Alaska as the state advances its commitment to improving reading outcomes with high quality, evidence-based literacy professional development. This latest approval enhances access to RGR's proven solutions for all grade levels.
