The SOC 2 security and compliance framework, developed by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), evaluates an organization's controls related to storing, processing, and transmitting client data. While a SOC 2 Type 1 report assesses the design of those controls at a point in time, a SOC 2 Type 2 report goes further by reviewing how effectively the controls operated over an extended period under independent audit.
