Director Hooroo Jackson unveils trailer for cinema's first simultaneous dual-format release - coming May 2025
BOSTON, March 31, 2025 -- Visionary filmmaker Hooroo Jackson has released the official trailer for "A Very Long Carriage Ride," revealing his unprecedented approach of releasing one film in two complete versions simultaneously.
The trailer showcases both the stop-motion and Disney-style 2D animated versions that will launch together this May.
This landmark AI film production represents three historic cinema firsts: the first feature released in two complete versions simultaneously, the first fully AI-generated stop-motion animated feature, and the first fully AI-generated Disney-style animated feature.
"The trailer is just a glimpse of what's possible when we free cinema from its traditional constraints," says Jackson. "This concept of 'One Film, Two Ways' is the simplest demonstration of what I call 'The Living, Breathing Cinema' - where audiences can experience stories in whatever form resonates most deeply with them."
Set in the 18th century, the Dickensian tale follows Autumn Watt, an aspiring socialite who uncovers the abuses of millionaire Meijor Donaldson. Teaming with disgraced businessman Hopkins Brandy, she embarks on a journey to expose Donaldson at his own wedding, navigating magical interference, mistaken identities, and her own conflicted loyalties.
Created entirely by Jackson at a budget of just $1,000, the film continues his pioneering work in AI cinema following "Window Seat" (2023), the first fully AI-generated feature film, and "DreadClub: Vampire's Verdict" (2024), the first AI-anime feature film.
"Rather than simply converting one version to another, I crafted both films separately. Every time I climbed the mountain, I went back down and climbed it again," Jackson explains. "It had to be difficult to prove the concept, knowing that in the future, this kind of creative flexibility will be done with just one click."
Jackson's groundbreaking collection of essays, "The New Machine Cinema: Foundations in AI Film Theory," established the first comprehensive theoretical framework for artificial intelligence in cinema. His concepts—including "One Man, One Film" (advocating for solo directorial authorship), "Speed of Mind" (cinema operating at the pace of human thought), and "The Living, Breathing Cinema" (malleable films adapting to viewer preference)—have proven remarkably prescient. As one of the rare directors that is both theorist and practitioner, Jackson occupies a unique position in cinema history, actively proving his theoretical concepts with actual films.
He sees this dual release as just the beginning. "Future films could offer different endings, different character perspectives, different aesthetics—all from the same core story. The audience gets to choose their own experience."
"A Very Long Carriage Ride" will premiere in May 2025.
