SAN FRANCISCO, March 13, 2025 -- Kiddom—an education technology company offering K-12 core curriculum solutions—today announced the availability of Kiddom Virginia Math for schools and divisions in K-8 and Algebra. This release aligns with the Virginia Mathematics Textbook Review Process, making it accessible to schools statewide. Kiddom Virginia Math is the sole mathematics curriculum approved at the K-5 level.
Kiddom is committed to supporting Virginia teachers and students "raise the floor, and remove the ceiling" for mathematics education by combining high-quality instructional materials with Kiddom's intuitive digital learning environment. Kiddom accelerates and streamlines teachers' planning, delivery, grading, and reporting, giving teachers valuable time back to invest and connect with their students in the classroom.
Kiddom Virginia Math is founded on Illustrative Mathematics®, with customizations exclusively for Virginia. These customizations center the 2023 Mathematics Standard of Learning (SOL) values: 1) mastery of basic facts, 2) coherence, 3) mastery of skills, understanding of concepts, and application of both, and 4) personalized mathematics pathways for students based on mastery and readiness—and changes in student learning objectives.
To ensure alignment with the state standards, the scope of all lessons are customized for Virginia. For example, in Kindergarten, counting lessons were adjusted to include counting up to 30 instead of 20; fractions in third grade now only include denominators of 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, or 10. Similarly, new lessons were added to introduce and practice using strategies and representations, such as doubling as a strategy for multiplication in third grade and patterns, function, and algebra concepts across K-8.
Amy Gensemer, Head of Curriculum at Kiddom, expressed Kiddom's commitment to excellence in developing this unique offering to the state of Virginia, "Our team dug deep into the SOLs and we listened to Virginia teachers share what mattered to them in the classroom: building strong math communities. Studying the SOLs and talking with practitioners inspired us and we put that inspiration to work. As a result, Kiddom is approved in Virginia for grades K-8 and Algebra and is the only state-approved K-5 math program with Geometry and Algebra II in review this spring for a complete K-12 experience in time for the start of the 2025-26 school year."
