Representative David Schweikert (R-AZ) and experts share insights on 2025
ARLINGTON, Va., Feb. 10, 2025 -- Last week, Bloomberg Industry Group hosted "Tax Policy Perspectives in 2025," a discussion of critical updates and insights from leading experts on what is shaping up to be a pivotal year in tax policy.
Presented by Bloomberg Government and Bloomberg Tax, the event featured an interview of Representative David Schweikert (R-AZ), member of the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee, by Bloomberg Tax reporter Chris Cioffi. Congressman Schweikert discussed reconciliation and deficit spending, stating that he would oppose his party's signature tax bill this year if it is "debt-financed."
"There's no free options," Schweikert noted during the interview. "We're going to have to do hard things."
Following the interview, a panel of experts discussed tax policy priorities for the 119th U.S. Congress and Trump administration, including the expiration of key Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) provisions and promises from President Trump to lower the corporate rate, raise the SALT cap, and cut taxes on tips, overtime, and Social Security.
Kicking off the discussion, moderator and Bloomberg Tax Practice Lead Lindsay Bartholomew set the stage. "We're going to tell you about what's going to be in a potential bill, how we get that bill passed, and who is going to pay for it."
Tax policy leaders Dr. Douglas Holtz-Eakin, president, American Action Forum, Rohit Kumar, principal and co-leader, National Tax Services Practice, PWC, Lisa Wolski, managing director, Washington Counsil Ernst & Young, provided insights into the progress of a tax bill that is anticipated to take shape within the first 100 days of the new administration.
"At this moment, lawmakers in Congress are debating the future of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act and other tax policy proposals to be included in a reconciliation," said Evan Croen, head of Bloomberg Tax & Accounting, as he introduced the event. "Bloomberg Tax and Bloomberg Government help tax and government affairs professionals stay on top of the latest tax policy developments and gain critical insights into implications for their work."
Bloomberg Industry Group will replay the event on Wednesday, February 12, at 2:00 pm ET. Register at https://aboutbtax.com/bg9V.
