Astro is now available for purchase directly within Google Cloud Marketplace
NEW YORK, April 9, 2025 -- Astronomer, the company behind Astro, the leading unified DataOps platform powered by Apache Airflow®, today announced that it has achieved the Google Cloud Ready - BigQuery Designation. Leveraging Google Cloud, Astronomer enriches the data workflows of complex pipelines with increased efficiency and analytics capabilities. Customers benefit from real-time, integrated observability across their Airflow pipelines and the vast ecosystem of Google Cloud services, resulting in streamlined monitoring and troubleshooting. Additionally, Google Cloud's security protocols and data management capabilities align with Astronomer's standards for comprehensive data governance.
Google Cloud Ready - BigQuery is a partner integration validation program that simplifies customer access to partner integrations within BigQuery. This program recognizes that Astro meets a core set of functional and interoperability requirements when integrating with BigQuery. Additionally, Astro is now available for purchase directly from the Google Cloud Marketplace, meaning existing Google Cloud customers can expedite their purchase of Astro and joint customers have the ability to spend existing Google Cloud commit credits on Astro.
"Astronomer already delivers advanced data orchestration capabilities directly to enterprise customers leveraging Google Cloud infrastructure," said Michael Musselman, VP of Partnerships at Astronomer. "Astro allows organizations to accelerate their data workflows for analytics, AI, and applications. This expanded collaboration empowers customers to optimize their data pipelines with an enterprise-grade, managed Apache Airflow service in the form of Astro, therefore reducing complexity and improving overall data management efficiency."
Apache Airflow is one of the most popular technologies for data orchestration and the recent State of Apache Airflow Report 2025 illustrates Airflowmore's remarkable surge in popularity. With over 324 million downloads in 2024 alone, Apache Airflow actually had more downloads last year than the combined total of every previous year of the project's existence. The Airflow community also boasts 3,000+ contributors, compared to 1,300+ in November 2020 and more than any other Apache Software Foundation open source project. Airflow has seen the number of organizations using it more than triple in the last 5 years, with over 77,000 organizations now utilizing it. Astro augments Airflow with enterprise-grade features to enhance developer productivity, optimize operational efficiency at scale, meet production environment requirements, and more.
"As a technical founder, I've learned that certain technology decisions can make or break a business, and selecting the right scalable and reliable data orchestration platform is absolutely one," said Srini Gorty, CEO and Founder, Leap Metrics. "Leap Metrics is a healthcare analytics and population health management platform, and our services impact people's well-being. Healthcare interoperability is central to what we do, and it is absolutely critical that we always provide the right data at the right time. Running Astro on Google Cloud gives us that confidence."
