Amira Learning Selected As Georgia's Only State-Approved Free Universal Reading Screener

Amira Learning Selected As Georgia's Only State-Approved Free Universal Reading Screener

Georgia's top-rated universal reading screener helps districts meet mandatory early screening requirements.

SAN FRANCISCO, May 13, 2025 -- Amira Learning (Amira), the leader in accelerating reading outcomes with AI and the Science of Reading, has been officially selected by the Georgia State Board of Education to have Amira ISIP Assess as an approved universal reading screener for students in K-3rd grade. As part of this selection, Amira will be the only free screener offered by the Georgia Council on Literacy through the Governor's Office of Student Achievement for Georgia school districts to assess students for the 2025-2026 school year. Amira stands as the only recommended screener validated by university and SEA efficacy research that accelerates literacy outcomes by delivering the latest in reading and neuroscience with AI.

Ranked as a top screener for reliability, validity, and effectiveness by the Sandra Dunagan Deal Center for Early Language and Literacy, Amira earned this designation through a rigorous evaluation. Through the powerful synergy of AI and neuroscience, Amira provides a fully AI proctored assessment that saves teachers valuable time. Amira listens as students read aloud, using advanced speech recognition and natural language processing to continuously assess reading and inform practice and instruction. Amira identifies reading difficulties in real time and delivers micro-interventions based on decades of reading and neuroscience research.

"For our 2024 review, Amira outscored all screener submissions in four out of five evaluation categories including technical adequacy, administration quality, attention to linguistic diversity, and product usability and support," said Dr. Lindee Morgan, Executive Director for the Sandra Dunagan Deal Center for Early Language and Literacy.

This decision aligns with Georgia's educational requirements under HB 307, Georgia Early Literacy and Dyslexia Act, signed into law in April, which mandates that schools conduct universal literacy screening for K-3 students and dyslexia screenings for kindergarten students. Now, school districts in Georgia can partner with Amira to meet the mandatory K-3 Screening requirements for the 2025-2026 school year at no cost to the district.

"Detecting reading challenges early makes all the difference," said Chris Blevins, Senior Vice President Strategic Partnership & Government Relations at Amira. "As Georgia's only free universal reading screener, we're building on our partnership with schools across the state—where 1 in 5 students already use Amira. Our innovative approach combines seamless assessment with intervention and remediation, helping educators and schools identify reading difficulties—including characteristics of dyslexia —without disrupting instruction, and giving families the support they need when it matters most."

Amira ISIP Assess provides accurate risk identification and analysis across all Georgia's MTSS tiers, with support extending through 8th grade in both English and Spanish. Amira delivers recommended interventions and integrated parent communication tools, while its AI-powered proctoring and scoring streamline implementation. By seamlessly integrating assessment and practice into existing literacy curriculum, Amira creates coherence that powers growth for districts across Georgia.

Amira will also provide educators with comprehensive professional development, training, and ongoing support throughout the year. Through personalized coaching sessions and dedicated office hours, teachers receive guidance in interpreting student data and applying it to their instructional strategies. This continuous professional support ensures educators can effectively explore specific data trends, tailor interventions to individual student needs, and continuously refine their teaching approaches based on data insights to improve student literacy outcomes over time.

The company has seen success with its screener in all 50 states. Amira was recently recommended and the only screener unanimously approved for California school districts to meet its mandatory K-2 screening requirements and studies have consistently shown a significant effect on end of year literacy achievement for students who use Amira 30 minutes each week, particularly for at-risk readers.

The company is trusted by school districts across the state of Georgia, including Savannah-Chatham, Cobb County, Henry County, Lee County, Coweta County, Clayton County, and Dougherty County School Systems.
