ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 14, 2025 -- Akiak Technology, LLC, proudly announces it has achieved CMMC Level 2 certification. Akiak Technology is among the very first tribally owned entities in America to earn this prestigious new certification that will soon be mandatory for many new Government contracts.
Akiak Technology LLC is a Small Business Administration certified 8(a) HUBZone IT company serving the Akiak Native Community Tribe in remote western Alaska.
"We recorded a perfect score of 110 with no corrective actions required in our CMMC Certification assessment," said Sharon Hamer, COO of Akiak Technology. "Many companies withdrew during the audit process this year because they were not prepared for the breadth and depth of the audit of their security controls," continued Hamer. "I am extremely proud and gratified that our small business infrastructure team was able to achieve Department of Defense (DoD) CMMC Level 2 Certification while a large number of mid to large size businesses are struggling to get into and through the audit process."
Akiak Technology now joins a short list of the initial few hundred CMMC Level 2 Certified companies. Currently, the requirement to have CMMC Level 2 Certification is scheduled to go into effect in October 2025 as a mandatory DoD contractual requirement and a condition for award for Prime contractors. If CMMC Level 2 Certification is required for the Prime contractor, it will also be a contractual requirement for all subcontractors.
Securing CMMC Level 2 Certificate at the earliest opportunity demonstrates Akiak Technology's commitment to maintaining our strong cybersecurity posture as a government contractor certified and trusted to safeguard Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) across the Defense Industrial Base (DIB) supply chain. The certification process was completed through Eide Bailly, an authorized CMMC Third-Party Assessment Organization (C3PAO).
