NEW YORK, April 22, 2025 -- Leica Camera is proud to present 100 Years of Leica: Witness to a Century in partnership with the Meatpacking BID. This full day of interactive arts and culture events will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the iconic Leica I camera—the first 35mm mass-produced camera introduced in 1925.

To honor this legacy of groundbreaking innovation, Leica is hosting a series of events on Saturday, May 3rd. This vibrant event will take place in the heart of New York City, spanning 13th Street and Gansevoort Plaza, bringing together photography enthusiasts, artists, and creatives to experience the intersection of history, innovation, and culture. Leica has brought together world-renowned photographers such as Bruce Davidson, Mark Mann, Bil Brown, Ralph Gibson, Mynxii White, Cheriss May, and many more to mark the occasion.

"We are thrilled to celebrate Leica's 100 years of innovation in one of the birthplaces of photography," said Mike Giannattasio, President of Leica Camera North America. "The Leica I camera brought accessibility to the masses, and with this event we're celebrating by taking photography out of the studio and onto the streets of New York City for all to partake. Leica has always believed in the power of photography to capture history, inspire creativity, and connect people across generations. As we celebrate 100 years of innovation, we remain committed to preserving and elevating the art of photography—honoring its past while embracing its future. From the earliest Leica cameras that revolutionized photojournalism to today's cutting-edge technology, we continue to champion visual storytelling as an essential part of culture."

"Leica cameras capture history and many of those incredible moments have been captured in the Meatpacking District," declared Jeffrey LeFrancois, Executive Director of the Meatpacking Business Improvement District. "A centennial celebration is an extraordinary moment and we are thrilled to be a part of bringing this to life. Leica's flagship and gallery space draw photography enthusiasts from all over the world to the District, and on May 3rd, we're taking the brand's fascinating heritage and spirit of innovation outdoors for people of all ages and skill levels to enjoy."

All activities are free and open to the public. Guests are welcome to reserve a spot in advance, though no RSVP is required to attend. For additional information on the Leica 100 Years celebration, please see a detailed list of events below:
